Solo Exhibition
Brush It Off by Kesem Yahav
November 8–16, 2025
Kesemy Design Studio, Amsterdam
This collection started with a single brush — a symbol, a tool, a beginning. Brush It Off explores the act of creating itself through a series of handmade ceramic brushes, each created through a combination of slip-cast clay, hand building, and natural materials.
Each brush is cast from liquid clay and paired with grasses and leaves collected from different places and moments. Every plant carries a connection to the landscape it came from, becoming part of a quiet archive of memory, place, and experience.
The project began with a spontaneous impulse: to create a brush that represents creativity and growth. Through experimentation and making, the idea evolved organically, allowing the materials and process to guide the work.
These brushes are not intended for traditional use. They are not tools for painting, but objects for imagination. Somewhere between tool, sculpture, and ritual object, they blur the line between function and artwork.
What happens when the tool becomes the artwork?
During the exhibition, most brushes were presented as sculptural pieces, while selected brushes invited visitors to paint with them. This created a space where stillness and action could coexist, encouraging curiosity, exploration, and connection through making.
Brush It Off is an invitation to embrace the creative process — to experiment, let go of perfection, trust uncertainty, and continue moving forward even when the path is unclear.
